Video Details

The transition into performing a turn vault can be challenging for beginners. It requires practice and a proper understanding of hand positioning. Initially, one should position the left hand under the right hand while facing the rail, ensuring that the right hand is positioned to release while the left hand maintains contact throughout the movement. The emphasis is on establishing coordination and control as the body begins to rotate.

To effectively execute the turn vault, it’s recommended to start with a step rather than jumping right away. The process involves getting into the correct starting position, where the opposite foot is used to push up and provide height as the vault occurs. This foundational practice helps build confidence and improves technique without the added difficulty of jumping. By concentrating on basic movements like stepping and turning, individuals can gradually develop their skills.

Eventually, once proficiency is achieved with the initial steps, practitioners can work on transitioning smoothly into more complex maneuvers. This involves practicing the turn with both right and left-hand positions for better balance and control. The early focus on hand placements and body coordination sets the groundwork for more advanced vault techniques, making it easier to progress in the sport.

Key Points:

  1. Proper hand positioning and control are crucial in executing the turn vault effectively.
  2. Beginners should start by practicing stepping into the vault rather than jumping to build confidence and coordination.
  3. Mastering basic movements lays a strong foundation for progressing to more complex vault techniques.

The Lesson

Demonstrate a two-handed step-vault on a hip-height railing with the outside hand facing the opposite way in a supinated grip.
Once you are on top of the rail and the back leg is passing over the wall, twist towards the hand 180 degrees and bring the foot down onto the ground facing back the way you came.
As the foot comes down, the inside hand re-grips the bar on the outside of the main hand.

For example:

  1. Grab the bar with Left-hand facing up, right hand facing down.
  2. Right-foot is placed into a step-vault position on the rail.
  3. Push up and remove the right hand off the bar.
  4. Bring the left foot up and over the rail.
  5. As the left leg is dropping on the other side, turn it back towards the left-hand.
  6. Turn the foot so it's facing back the way you came as it lands.
  7. The right hand grabs the rail on the outside of the left hand.
  8. finish with the right foot landing next to the left foot.

The rail must be hip-height or above.

Repeat three times on both sides.

involves starting off with the right

hand position which is going to be as
16.48
you're facing the rail you want to place
18.64
your left hand under if we're going to
20.64
the left the right hand on top this is
24.08
because the right hand is going to let
25.56
go the left hand is going to maintain
28.039
contact the whole time and it's going to
29.759
come
31.16
around however when you start off with
33.399
the stepf the hard part is doing the
36.04
jump so we're going to get rid of that
38.12
to begin with we're going to do a step
39.68
vult into uh turning so from here get

into the starting position for the turn
46.559
Vault get your uh opposite foot on so if
50.239
I'm using my left hand to rotate around
52.199
it's going to be my right foot and I'm
54.32
going to push up get this leg up so my

is is getting the hands in the right

76.759
Landing so I'm using that stepf to give

other way so right hand this way left
85.64
foot up step over and turn getting the
