The training session focuses on practicing vaulting techniques, particularly the step vault and slide vault. Initially, participants are instructed on how to practice vaulting both up and down while sitting on a wide wall. The emphasis is on improving their movement by going over obstacles without placing their feet down, which involves coordinating their body movements, especially swinging their back leg upward and landing correctly on the opposite side.
As they progress, the instructions shift to practicing the full slide vault technique. This involves executing a swing and landing effectively without touching the surface they are vaulting over. It is noted that while the height of the slide vault can be challenging, practitioners are encouraged to start with lower obstacles to build confidence and refine their technique. This gradual approach helps them adapt to the feel of the movement without overexerting themselves.
The session ends with advice on finding suitable objects for practice, such as a wall or a vault box, to help familiarize themselves with the vaulting action. The overarching goal is to master the swing motion and ensure a smooth transition over the obstacles, reinforcing the importance of adaptability and confidence in executing vaults effectively.
Key Points:
- The training involves practicing various vaulting techniques, focusing on movement and landing without using feet on obstacles.
- Participants are encouraged to start with lower vaults to build confidence before attempting higher surfaces.
- The emphasis is on mastering the swing motion for a smooth vault transition, with recommendations for suitable practice objects.
Perform a full slide-vault over a hip-height wall without making contact other than your hands behind you.
A standard brick-length width wall or less.
Start with the obstacle to your side and swing the outside leg up over the wall (as if doing a step vault from a twisted position).
Tuck the opposite leg underneath the first leg, similar to the ground position in level-1.
Place both hands behind you and make sure your hips are facing down the wall.
Keep sweeping the first leg over the wall and down on the opposite side with that foot first.
Keep the back leg tucked behind you until you've landed the first foot.
Repeat three times on each side.
