Video Details

The reverse vault is a maneuver that resembles the speed vault but requires a backward motion. In this technique, the performer makes a running start, utilizes one hand, and propels their legs over an obstacle, reversing the actions of the speed vault. As the practitioner approaches the vault, they shift their body position to ensure a backward trajectory while executing the maneuver, which may include a 360° rotation as they prepare to land.

During execution, the individual must project momentum while lifting both legs off the ground and bringing them over the obstacle. This demands a significant amount of speed, and the performer needs to ensure they are facing outward as they complete the vault, which involves a careful rotation. Proper body mechanics, such as using one hand for support and leveraging rotational forces, are essential to maintain balance and control throughout the maneuver.

For those inexperienced with the reverse vault, beginning training on a low wall can build confidence and skill. Starting with a reverse step vault, practitioners can gradually acclimate themselves to the movements required for the complete reverse vault. Incorporating practice into one's routine will allow for improvement, enabling performers to eventually execute the vault smoothly, even without placing their foot on top of the obstacle during the landing phase.

The Lesson

Demonstrate the ability to do a reverse vault, turning 360 degrees, over a hip-height or greater wall. The wall can be any width, but you must land on the opposite side of the wall.

You must be at jogging-pace or faster.

You can land one or two feet, but must be facing the same direction you started.

You hand must be flat on the wall with the palm down and no steepling of the fingers.

Example:

  1. Jogging into the vault, start facing the wall.
  2. As you get to the wall, place your right hand flat on top of the wall in front of your left hip ( crossing your body)
  3. Start turning to your left and Box-jump with both feet together.
  4. As you are in the air, you will pass over the wall still turning to the left.
  5. Keep turning until you are 360 degrees as you land on the ground.

You can land one or two feet on the floor.

Three repetitions on each side are required.

reverse this is not the reverse step
9.96
Vault this is just the reverse it is the
15.64
sibling to the speed Vault so the speed
19.96
vault is just a single hand both legs go
24.039
over the
26.16
reverse is the reverse of that it's a
28.88
speed vault but going backwards now
33.52
because you generally are running
36.16
forwards and you turn to go in a
39.879
backwards Vault there is rotation
42.719
happening and you'll find that as you
45.12
put your right hand down or your left
46.96
hand down you'll rotate around that
51
arm and your body will keep turning that
54.719
way and it'll allow you to
57.719
exit facing the same way so you pretty
60.48
much doing a 360 tan so let's give that
63.879
a
64.88
go you're going to need a lot of
72.24
speed let's try again

okay so that is the reverse so as you

108.6
are going over the top in the reverse
111.719
Landing one two and carrying on uh with
116.2
the
117.399
momentum this is a bit tricky because
120.479
as I say you're turning to face outwards
124.039
and then you keep turning and Landing
128.08
360° back to facing the way that you
131.76
came practice on a low wall and you can
135.239
start with the reverse step Vault and
138.319
then build up so the reverse step vault
141.959
is here and then come out and keep going
146.959
you can build up from that and then try

to get rid of the foot on top

Vault this is just the reverse it is the

vault is just a single hand both legs go

6
00:00:24,000 --> 00:00:28,000
over the

7
00:00:26,000 --> 00:00:33,000

9
00:00:33,000 --> 00:00:39,000
because you generally are running

00:00:60,000 --> 00:01:04,000
much doing a 360 tan so let's give that

00:00:63,000 --> 00:01:08,000
a

[Applause]

23
00:00:98,000 --> 00:01:43,000
okay so that is the reverse so as you

24
00:00:101,000 --> 00:01:48,000
see I'm going to my right both feet are

25
00:00:103,000 --> 00:01:50,000
coming up I'm hopping up and both legs

26
00:00:108,000 --> 00:01:55,000
are going over the top in the reverse

27
00:00:111,000 --> 00:01:56,000
Landing one two and carrying on uh with

28
00:00:116,000 --> 00:01:60,000
the

29
00:00:117,000 --> 00:01:63,000
momentum this is a bit tricky because

30
00:00:120,000 --> 00:01:67,000
as I say you're turning to face outwards

31
00:00:124,000 --> 00:01:71,000
and then you keep turning and Landing

32
00:00:128,000 --> 00:01:75,000
360° back to facing the way that you

33
00:00:131,000 --> 00:01:77,000
came practice on a low wall and you can

34
00:00:135,000 --> 00:01:81,000
start with the reverse step Vault and

35
00:00:138,000 --> 00:01:86,000
then build up so the reverse step vault

36
00:00:141,000 --> 00:01:89,000
is here and then come out and keep going

37
00:00:146,000 --> 00:01:94,000
you can build up from that and then try

38
00:00:150,000 --> 00:01:95,000
to get rid of the foot on top
