Lesson Level : 7
Railing Speed
Step Vault 7
lesson
1m 51s

Video Details

The focus is on executing a step vault specifically using a railing as an anchor point. Typically, individuals tend to place their hands flat on top of a wall while performing this move, but this method is not optimal when it comes to stability and safety on a railing. Instead, it's recommended to grip the railing with the thumb positioned behind, which provides better security and prevents slipping off during the vault. It's emphasized that this grip aids in maintaining balance and control, allowing for a more secure execution of the technique.

In the execution of the step vault, mastering hand placement is critical. Both the hand and foot must be accurately positioned, with the ball of the foot making contact with the rail to help guide the body through the move. While the foot provides some level of safety, the majority of the body's weight and support should come from the hands. This understanding is essential for feeling comfortable and confident while performing the vault, as it shifts the focus away from reliance on the foot and toward effectively utilizing the hands.

Finally, the practice of the step vault can be enhanced by integrating speed and refining technique. Encouragement is given to attempt the movement from different sides to develop versatility and adapt the method to different situations. By doing so, the practitioner can build confidence and improve their overall performance, ensuring a smooth execution of the step vault on a railing in various environments.

Key Points:

  1. Proper grip on the railing is crucial for safety and control during the step vault, with thumbs positioned behind the hands to prevent slipping.
  2. Accurate hand and foot placement is vital, as the majority of the support should come from the hands rather than the feet.
  3. Practicing with increased speed and from different angles can enhance technique and build confidence in performing the step vault.

The Lesson

Similar to level-6, this has all the same parameters, except that it must be performed on a railing of scaffolding diameter or less (48mm).

This is to demonstrate accuracy of hand and foot placement while at speed.

Speed must be at jogging-pace or more and there must be minimal slow-down during the vault. A consistency in flowing over the obstacle is key.

You must land one-foot on the ground and run out of the vault.

You must start more than 5-paces away (a standard walking-pace) and finish 5-paces away on the other side of the obstacle.

Railing must be hip-height or greater, with a standard scaffolding rail width or less. It can be round or flat. If it is flat, it cannot be wider than 48mm.

all right we're going to use the railing
13.599
to do the step Vault this time and it's
16.6
important to understand how this works
19.6
on a railing um with your hands so
22.92
obviously normally you would put your
24.56
hands flat on top of the wall but this
28.359
is usually not the best way um like
31.4
grabbing like that on the rail because
33.92
if you your thumb if it's over the front
36.719
it's much easier to SLP off the front
40
instead thumb behind you grab it fully
43.6
the thumb sort of acts as a safety and
46.92
then you can get your hand on so let's
49.76
give that a crack and then up step and
53.52
through yeah so all the components are
56.6
exactly the same you've just now got to
58.8
be more accurate with the the hand and
62.079
the
63.32
foot you've got to get that ball of the
65.84
foot going on with the the rail the
67.96
thumb behind on the rail on this side
70.6
and at this point you'll now feel
73.64
comfortable doing the step for and
75.04
you'll understand that actually the foot
77.68
is there just not for much more other
82.119
than sort of a little bit of
83.92
safety it's much more to do with the
86.56
hand and your body weight on your hand
88.84
rather than the foot
90.479
let's give it another go maybe a little
92.439
bit more speed let's go on the other
94.24
side this time so from
96.52
here there and
99.28
over and that would be the St Vault on a

rail
