Kash Vault

Video Details

The Kash vault is a compound movement that combines elements of both the cat pass and the dash vault. In executing the cash vault, the practitioner first approaches a wall and performs a cat pass, which involves bringing the legs over the obstacle while maintaining forward momentum. However, instead of continuing forward with the body, the individual leans backward, transitioning into the dash vault position with hands placed behind them. This repositioning requires a level of comfort with both movements and an understanding of the mechanics involved.

To successfully perform the kash vault, one must execute a bilateral movement where both hands engage simultaneously while the feet pass through the obstacle. This technique is not only about transitioning from one vault to another but also involves controlling the body to remain upright as the legs can ideally remain elevated for longer. Additionally, this movement is aesthetically pleasing, although it is not commonly used in practice today.

The kash vault may require some practice to master, emphasizing the combination of previous skills from the cat pass and dash vault. Demonstrations of the proper technique are crucial to understanding how to finish with hands behind while ensuring a smooth transition. Attempting to practice the kash vault can be both challenging and rewarding as it encapsulates agility and flexibility in parkour.

Key Points:

  1. The kash vault combines elements of both the cat pass and dash vault, involving a transition from a forward body position to a backward leaning position.
  2. Successfully executing the kash vault requires bilateral movement, where both hands engage at the same time while managing body control.
  3. The movement is aesthetically appealing but is not commonly practiced, necessitating practice and mastery of foundational skills for successful execution.

The Lesson

The cat-pass is also commonly known as the 'kong' vault. Combined with the exit of a dash vault, the kong-dash was shortened to be called the Kash Vault.

Demonstrate a Kash vault on a hip-height or higher wall of any width. You must land two feet and your palms must be flat on top of the wall with no steepled fingers.

This can be performed with or without momentum.

Example.

  1. Standing in front of the wall, place both hands in the middle of the wall, flat and with the palms down.
  2. Jump into the air, performing the entry of a cat-pass, by tucking you knees and legs under you.
  3. As your tucked legs pass under you, your hands will leave the wall for a moment.
  4. As the legs start passing ahead of you, the hands will down back down onto the wall.
  5. With the legs ahead and you hands behind you, exit the vault in a dash vault.
  6. Land two feet together.

You must not twist or only have one-hand come off the wall. Both hands must leave the wall at the same time and land at the same time.

The Kash vault is a bilateral movement and therefore one side should not be different from the other at any time.

Repeat three times.
