In parkour, a common challenge involves completing a traverse followed by a climb. This combination requires not only a successful traverse but also the ability to effectively execute a climb afterward. It is important to practice both skills in tandem, as these movements demand significant physical effort and can lead to fatigue. Starting with mastering the climb techniques is recommended, particularly in scenarios where dropping down is not a viable option.
As one becomes fatigued after traversing, continuing immediately into a climb can be particularly demanding. This makes it crucial to develop the ability to ascend walls or other climbing surfaces without exhausting oneself. Proper technique and transitioning between movements are theoretically essential to improve efficiency and reduce the overall energy expenditure. This will help parkour practitioners manage their endurance and stamina while facing various physical challenges.
To succeed in parkour, especially in traverses followed by climbs, a practitioner must continuously hone both skills. The act of combining these movements tests both physical strength and technical proficiency, pushing practitioners to refine their abilities. Training effectively in both actions will ultimately enhance performance and confidence in navigating complex environments.
Key Points:
- Combining traverses with climbs is a fundamental challenge in parkour that demands significant physical exertion and must be practiced together.
- Fatigue from traversing can complicate subsequent climbs, necessitating effective technique and energy management.
- Mastering the flow between traverses and climbs is essential for parkour practitioners to enhance their performance and adaptability in physical challenges.
Demonstrate a bent-arm cat-leap / arm-jump hang position on the side of a wall and then traverse 10-steps (heel-to-toe) to the left and to the right without dropping off the wall until both directions are complete (20 steps distance in total). Wall can be any height that is comfortable.
Knees should be bent, one leg higher than the other. One at hip-height, and underneath you.
Arms must be bent at ninety degrees or less (chin closer to hands). Full finger length over the top. No over-grip onto the back edge of the wall - must be on the front edge corner of the wall.
Repeat twice for both directions.
The distance of must be traversed by your entire body. You must pass the distance entirely before returning in the opposite direction
