Video Details

In parkour, transitioning from traversing to climbing up is a fundamental movement that requires practice and coordination. When completing a traverse, it’s essential to prepare for the subsequent climb-up effectively. This movement involves strategic hand placement and body mechanics to ensure a successful ascent after navigating across a surface. As fatigue sets in from traversing, executing a climb-up can become increasingly difficult, making it crucial to practice this combination to enhance technique and physical endurance.

The climb-up itself involves several key steps that need to be mastered. Initially, one must engage in traversing while ensuring the body remains oriented toward the climb. As the individual reaches the point of ascent, maintaining focus on proper hand positioning and elevating the elbows will assist in generating the necessary upper body strength. Feet placement is equally vital, as they need to be positioned appropriately to facilitate a smooth transition from hanging to climbing up.

Combining the traverse and climb-up presents a significant challenge that tests both physical conditioning and technique. It requires not just strength but also an understanding of momentum and body movement to perform effectively under fatigue. Success in these movements will enhance overall parkour skill and contribute to greater agility and flexibility in performing various maneuvers.

Key Points:

  1. Transitioning from a traverse to a climb-up is crucial in parkour and requires specific body mechanics.
  2. Proper technique involving hand and foot placement is essential for executing an effective climb-up.
  3. The combination of traversing and climbing tests one's physical endurance and technique, highlighting the need for practice.

The Lesson

Demonstrate a bent-arm cat-leap / arm-jump hang position on the side of a wall and then traverse 10-steps (heel-to-toe) to the left and then climbup to your feet. Climb back down and then traverse back in the opposite direction. Climbup at the end again.

You can rest for 10 seconds between the climb-up and climb-down.

Wall can be any height that is comfortable.

Knees should be bent, one leg higher than the other. One at hip-height, and underneath you.

Full finger length over the top. No over-grip onto the back edge of the wall - must be on the front edge corner of the wall.

Repeat twice for both directions.

The distance of must be traversed by your entire body. You must pass the distance entirely before returning in the opposite direction

move as you've traversed you're going to

learning how to get up onto the wall uh

fatigued um is really important so let's

do that so I'm going to work from back
