Video Details

The side vault technique focuses on enhancing momentum during execution. The process begins with a specific approach, utilizing a stronger pull from the outside hand, which facilitates a more dynamic entry. By pulling harder as the hands engage, the momentum increases, enabling the performer to exit with greater speed and control.

To successfully navigate the side vault, a coordinated push with the other hand is critical as the individual exits the maneuver. This technique emphasizes starting from a slightly further distance to effectively leverage the pulling and pushing actions. As one gains confidence, these movements allow for higher hips and a more successful clearance over obstacles like walls.

Practicing the pull and push techniques is essential for improvement. They not only enhance the speed and confidence of the vault but also contribute to a more fluid execution overall. By experimenting with these variations, individuals can refine their skills and achieve more satisfactory outcomes during their side vault tries.

Key points:

  1. Stronger pull and push actions during the side vault enhance momentum and speed.
  2. Starting from a further distance allows for better engagement and control during the maneuver.
  3. Consistent practice of these techniques leads to improved confidence and success in clearing obstacles.

The Lesson

Using momentum you must perform a side-vault over a hip-height wall and land more than 5-steps away from the wall on the other side.

You can land on the inside foot only (closest to wall) and keep moving out or in a stop, but the foot must clear 5-steps away from the wall. Use a marker to indicate the distance of the 5-steps.

On the exit of the side-vault, you can use the trailing hand to push you away from the wall.

Your chest, torso and hips must be facing the same direction on the takeoff and landing position.

You must repeat three times on each side.
